Marafiq Al-Jubail IWPP Reached "Financial Close" - A Major Reference for ILF

Following the Shoaiba 3 and Shuquaiq 2 IWPPs in Saudi Arabia, ILF again was part of a team to advise the Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail & Yanbu (Marafiq) on the development of the Jubail IWPP which has reached Financial Close in June 2007. The Jubail IWPP - located near Al Jubail Industrial City, North-East of Saudi Arabia - will become the world's largest integrated power and desalination project under a BOOT scheme and will comprise a 2,750 MW gas-fired combined-cycle power station and a 800,000 m³/day seawater desalination facility based on the Multi-Effect distillation (MED) process.

The major challenge of the project is the MED desalination plant with almost four times the desalination capacity compared to the world largest reference plant in operation.
