ILF to work on the Koralm tunnel
At the end of October, the ÖBB Infrastruktur AG awarded a bidder consortium led by ILF Consulting Engineers the contract for the construction supervision of the lot "KAT2" of the Koralm tunnel. This construction lot comprises two parallel single-track tunnel tubes with a length of 20 km each, of which 17 km will be excavated with TBM. Construction works are to start at the end of 2010.
The Koralm tunnel is the core element of the new Koralmbahn railway line between Graz and Klagenfurt; it is also part of the Baltic-Adriatic axis of the TEN corridor 23 between Gdansk, Warsaw, Vienna and Bologna. When completed, the 32.5 km long Koralm tunnel will be the longest railway tunnel in Austria and one of the longest in the world.
