On May 13, 2011, after several years of intensive work, the 150 m long shield machine ‘Big Becky’ completed the breakthrough of the 10.2 km long Niagara Tunnel with a diameter of 14.4 m. The euphoric workmen as well as the representatives of the owner, government and the press, celebrated this significant milestone in the history of the ‘Sir Adam Beck Generating Station’ in Ontario, Canada.
Since 2005, ILF has been responsible for the bid design, detailed design, construction design, and the preparation of the as-built drawings on behalf of STRABAG. After completion of the overall project in 2013, the power plant will guarantee the energy supply for approx. 160,000 households.
