Underground power plant comes on line
After 5 years of construction, the Limberg II pumped storage power plant in Kaprun now finally comes on line. The pump and turbine output of 480 megawatt covers 10 % of the needed peak current in Austria. Limberg II is using the already existing reservoirs; the power plant itself was entirely built underground.
As a partner of a joint venture working for the operator “Verbund” (see also www.verbund.com), ILF was responsible for the construction design of the underground structures.
