Loading Facilities in the Port of Leixões to be Revamped
The EU member state Portugal accelerates the upgrading and extension of its harbour connections to establish the country as the Atlantic Gateway to the European Economic Area. Since October 2006, ILF has been preparing the design and tender documents for the revamp of the oil loading facilities at the Harbour of Porto in Leixões and the GALP-refinery Matosinhos located nearby on behalf of Petrogal, S.A., a subsidiary of GALP ENERGIA, Portugal's only refiner. These oil loading facilities consist of three berth stages and a single point mooring for crude oil and refinery products.
On July 1 2008, the revamp works of the first berth for deep-sea oil tankers (crude and fuel oil) were started, supervised by ILF. The two other berth stages must keep running during the upgrading works, in order to ensure an ongoing loading of various goods and products. Likewise, the entire supply and disposal logistics of the construction site, as well as the installation of all construction components, are being executed under constricted circumstances from the water side. The two remaining berth stages shall be upgraded in 2009.
