Project design including conceptual design, preliminary design, permit application design, tender and construction design, contract negotiations, support of site supervision and startup of snowmaking system in Sölden.

  • Water withdrawal: max. 50 l/s from Pitztaler Jöchl,  water intake structure at the Rettenbach glacier
  • Total water supply capacity:  460 l/s = 1,660 m³/h
  • Electrical power:  6,000 kW
  • Length of air, water and power lines:  22,000 m of cast iron pipes, 18,000 m of PE pipes

Since 1999 the Sölden-Hochsölden GesmbH. & Co. KG skilift company had been pursuing the project of a new Rotkogel snowmaking system for the Giggijoch - Gampe ski resort - link to the glacier, for which there had been no snowmaking facility. ILF was commissioned to carry out the project design in early 2005. 2006 saw the start of the construction of the Rotkogel storage reservoir with a working capacity of some 150,000 m³, as well as the erection of the Rotkogel pumping station.

10 auxiliary and main pumps as well as a powerful compressor station to supply compressed air to the 130 new propeller snow generators were installed in the Rotkogel pumping station. On account of its size, the snowmaking system was erected in three large construction stages in 2006 and 2007 and in an additional expansion stage in 2008, with a total of 8 construction stages “Rotkogel 1 to 8”, to ensure a continuous snow cover in this part (about 70 ha) of the ski area after startup.

The Giggijoch pumping station and the Pitztaler Jöchl water intake structure at the Rettenbach glacier, with water being conveyed to the Rotkogel storage reservoir via an approx. 3.5-km supply line, were constructed in 2006. Via the Gampe pressure-reducing station the water from the storage reservoir can also be used for the lower-lying area and for the existing Silberne Piste snowmaking system.

This powerful facility required the construction of almost 22 km of water lines to be able to make snow for some 70 ha of ski slopes in the areas around the Giggijoch at approx. 2,300 m.a.s.l., the ski slopes at Seekogel and Einzeiger and the Rettenbach glacier at 2,770 m.a.s.l.
