The consulting services for the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (BAZL) cover all aspects of the ICAO Annex 14 for airports and heliports.

Main focus is the evaluation of the infrastructure of more than 100 Swiss aerodromes and heliports regarding compliance with and implementation of the relevant international guidelines. The permit application submitted to the BAZL will be assessed with regard to conformity with the guidelines. The issues addressed include, among others, runway extensions, apron expansions, markings, lighting systems, new construction of hangars and obstacle assessment. Projects involve the Zurich and Geneva airports, the regional airports in Berne and Lugano, as well as smaller airports, heliports and glider airfields.

In addition to the evaluation of the documents, the BAZL will receive advice and support in the production of internal instructions and regionally applicable guidelines.

In 2005/2006 the Strategic Plan for Aviation Infrastructure (SIL) for Zurich airport was assessed on behalf of BAZL. The Strategic Plan is meant to serve as a planning and coordination tool for civil infrastructure at airports and contains strategic guidelines for coordinated planning and development of the pertinent infrastructure.

The scope of services provided for the aviation authority included the participation and technical advisory services at workshops on safety analysis and risk assessment of air traffic routes as well as the appraisal and evaluation of the concepts submitted by Zurich Airport. An assessment was made of the infrastructure with a view to conclusiveness, compliance with international guidelines and comprehensibility. Furthermore, the activities of the expert advisers involved in the evaluation were coordinated.
