ILF to provide Feasibility Study for Rehabilitation of Main Line 2 of Pakistan Railways

In February 2016, Pakistan Railways commissioned ILF Consulting Engineers to carry out a feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the existing 1,343 km long broad gauge (1,676 mm) Main Line 2 from Kotri station to Attock City station. The goal of this contract is to determine the existing conditions of the infrastructure and to identify improvements required to increase the travelling speed from currently 70 – 80 kmph to up to 160 kmph.

The services comprise a condition survey of more than 2,000 bridges with non-destructive testing and a structural analysis of 100 selected representative bridges, 10 tunnels, stations and freight yards. Topographic surveys, geological studies and geotechnical investigations, hydrological studies, rehabilitation studies for all infrastructure components, including rail systems, power, signaling and telecom systems and infrastructure crossings will also be carried out. Based on traffic studies, operation studies and cost estimates, a financial and economic study shall complete the feasibility study report.
