WHAT WE DO

WHAT WE DO

The Hydropower & Alpine Engineering department has been a mainstay of our company for many years. The department combines two main areas:

On the one hand, we serve clients in Austria and abroad with engineering services for typical hydropower plants, the planning and design of pumped storage plants for energy storage, as well as with the modernization and retrofitting design of existing hydropower plants and pumped storage plants.

On the other hand, our focus in the area of Alpine Engineering is on planning and designing snow-making systems, storage reservoirs, pumping stations, pipe networks and energy supply networks. Thanks to our many years of experience, we are able to provide further planning and design services, such as the design of ski runs or connections between ski areas. Internationally, we carry out the overall planning of alpine tourism resorts.

Merging both areas (Hydropower Engineering and Alpine Engineering) into one results in many useful synergies. For example, the ropeway industry is increasingly requesting services related to the additional use of existing infrastructure for technical snow-making in order to generate power or store energy.

We assist our clients during all phases of a project, from feasibility studies and conceptual design to basic design and permit application design, as well as construction design and detailed design, which also includes providing support during the tendering procedure and entire procurement process.

We also usually supervise the construction works and the final commissioning and start-up of all facilities, plants and structures. In addition, we offer technical support with the optimization and operation of the facilities, plants and structures we design.

OUR TEAM

WHO YOU’LL BE WORKING WITH

Our department (with approximately 40 employees) is made up of Design Engineers, Project Technicians, Project Managers and Technical Experts specializing in the areas of Plant Engineering and Construction, Hydraulics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Our experts are specialized in 3D BIM modeling, as well as the design of ski resorts and snow-making systems, hydropower plants, especially pumped storage plants, hydraulic machines such as pumps, turbines, etc. and also hydraulic steel structures and civil and structural engineering for dams and water-retaining structures. Depending on requirements, we form individual project teams, which are additionally supported by Team Assistants. The atmosphere in our department is very friendly and based on mutual respect and appreciation.

“The professionalism and flexibility of my team when it comes to handling and completing projects individually and competently makes me proud. However, it is especially the team spirit and collegiality of my team members that really sets them apart. The motivation of each individual creates a positive atmosphere amongst the team and spurs us on in our work towards achieving our common project objectives.”

Project Manager – Hydropower Engineering

“One of my highlights so far at ILF has been my first business trip to Amman to present the design of the first pumped storage plant for Jordan. It was an exciting experience to finally get to know all of the people at the project site with whom I’d worked towards this moment in the project. It was an incredible feeling to see how the collective enthusiasm for this project brings together people from all over the world to help a country achieve its goal of a more sustainable energy supply.”
