The Information Technology (IT), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) Department is a multi-faceted department that combines expertise in information technology, spatial analysis and construction project management. The department focuses on using innovative tools, data analysis and information management practices to support various organizational needs, improve decision-making processes, and optimize project outcomes.
The IT Team is the technology backbone of the company.
The team’s primary role is to ensure the comprehensive support, maintenance and continued development of the IT infrastructure. This includes managing hardware, software, networks, and databases, to ensure smooth operations and resolve technical issues. The IT Team also plays an important role in implementing cybersecurity measures, protecting data and complying with relevant industry standards. In addition, this team is responsible for identifying and implementing emerging technologies to improve the efficiency and productivity of the company.
The GIS Team specializes in the use of geographic data and the application of spatial analysis techniques.
They collect, organize, analyze and visualize geographic information using advanced software and tools. The GIS Team works together with colleagues in other departments and with stakeholders to provide spatial solutions for planning, resource management and decision-making processes. They create maps, perform spatial analysis, generate reports, and contribute to the development of spatially enabled applications and systems that improve operational effectiveness and optimize resource allocation.
The central building block for our overarching design coordination is our WebGIS. This makes it possible to visualize and edit all project-specific geodata via an Internet browser. In a modern and hybrid work environment, where project teams work together across different ILF branch offices and national borders, WebGIS forms the backbone of design coordination and ensures that all project participants have centralized access to the latest data.
The BIM Team provides comprehensive services for successful implementation of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) method and for efficient digitalization. The team members accompany and advise our clients throughout all phases of their BIM projects. The BIM Team ensures BIM project requirements are successfully implemented through effective discipline-specific and overall BIM coordination. By providing tools, for example for evaluating sustainability and cost, we promote transparency in the decision-making process. Our Project Cockpit enables the evaluation and visualization of project-specific data in an integrated 3D viewer. Through computational design and workflow automation, we optimize efficiency in the planning and design process and explore new design solutions. We optimize the BIM models used in various teams so that they can also be published in WebGIS.
Our department is currently divided into three teams: IT, GIS and BIM. The teams are in turn made up of smaller groups of colleagues with different responsibilities and focuses.
The IT Team is divided into three such smaller groups – IT Projects, Infrastructure and User Helpdesk – and currently consists of around 20+ employees.
The GIS Team currently has around 10+ people with different areas of expertise, organized thematically according to the types of projects that are served. We have specialists for the planning and design of transportation routes (roads, railways, tunnels, etc.) and underground pipelines (for electricity, water, natural gas, oil, etc.), as well as for general environmental planning and permit application design.
In the BIM Team, there are currently around 10+ experts, working in the following smaller groups: BIM Modelling, BIM Coordination & Management and BIM Tool Support & Development.
We employ a team of experts from the various disciplines of IT and Geoinformatics, and strive to cover as wide a range of services as possible.
Knowledge is one of the few commodities that increases in value as soon as it is shared with others. In our department, you can expect to work with a highly qualified and increasingly international team that is eager to share its project experience with you and is interested in integrating and further developing your personal skills and knowledge in the best possible way.
We place particular value on treating each other in a respectful and friendly manner. No one is left alone and we celebrate successes together.
“I am particularly proud of the fact that all my teams have internalized the idea of service and innovation: The IT Team makes sure that business can continue as usual and that all other departments can work productively. They provide the most flexible and efficient working environment possible. The GIS and BIM Teams have established themselves as Competence Centers within the ILF world. These Competence Centers are responsible for ensuring that new technologies and production processes are developed and/or adapted specifically for use within ILF. I always find it fascinating when a team of intelligent and committed people dedicate themselves to a task and tackle it successfully. Or in the words of one of the TV series heroes* of my generation: “I love it when a plan comes together!””

MEET YOUR COLLEAGUES
“I value the balanced working atmosphere and my helpful colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge and experience with others. In addition to the exciting working environment with new challenges every day, participation in further training and education alongside our work is also made possible and is supported.”
Clemens S.
BIM Coordinator & Information Manager
“In my role as a GIS Expert, I work with many different specialist disciplines within the company. This gives me the opportunity to help shape many projects, which also differ greatly in the demands they place on our team. In particular, I find the projects related to the German “Energiewende” (energy transition) especially exciting, and it is great fun to be able to be a part of and contribute to such projects.”
Stefan U.
GIS Specialist
“I like the daily lunch gathering, the after hour drinks, the feeling of unity and the friendship. I’m proud of the efficient work we’ve done sorting through the old devices and cleaning up the existing ones from old Office versions.”

IT Support Engineer
- our IT Team provides support to roughly 1,000 employees at 25 different locations. These employees currently use 1,000+ computers, 600+ software products and about 500 mobile phones and other mobile devices.
- we process approximately 15,000 IT tickets per year. 93% of which are resolved in less than an hour.
- we currently manage 1,330 TB of data on our storage systems. The equivalent of 266,000 5-minute-long songs on Spotify – enough to be able to listen to music day and night for 2.5 years without playing any of those songs twice.
- we have used GIS to plan and design more than 10,000 km of underground pipelines for various project phases in the last 10 years. This required processing approximately 50 TB of survey data.
- we use more than 20 different software technologies in the BIM environment
- we have already created several thousand intelligent building components for our BIM library
- our BIM Team includes experts in the fields of Workflow Automation and Computational Design.
Thanks to their know-how, we have already been able to create more than 40 innovative in-house developments. These range from ready-to-use parametric structures including reinforcement, urban development design tools and practical plug-ins for Revit, to various scripts for automating recurring tasks.
