For more than 50 years, the Transport Engineering Department West* has been involved in planning and designing railway and road infrastructure projects all over the world – today, our focus is on projects in Austria and Germany.
Our team’s work comprises the delivery of services in all phases of a project – from the feasibility study phase to the construction/detailed design phase – as well as coming up with comprehensive client-oriented and optimized solutions for new construction, upgrade and rehabilitation projects. Our professional know-how stems from our many years of experience in planning and designing more than 5,000 km of railway lines and more than 1,500 km of roads to date.
The breadth of our pooled expertise when working together with other departments at ILF enables us to provide interdisciplinary planning and design services for tunnel projects from a single source. At ILF, the concept of integral overall design and consulting services from a single source is not limited to the provision of standard services but also includes the delivery of numerous additional special services such as road safety audits or noise projection studies. The use of BIM in projects has furthermore become of pivotal importance in ILF’s planning activities, which is why we, today, continuously use BIM in our daily work.
*The range of tasks performed by the departments Transport Engineering East and Transport Engineering West overlap in many respects, but when it comes to contracts, the two departments “divide” their work in Austria between East and West.
Our department (with approximately 20 employees) is made up of Apprentices, (CAD) Technicians and Project Managers. In our projects, we regularly work together with other departments, including the Tunnel Engineering department, the Geotechnical Engineering department, the Structural Engineering department, the Geology and Hydrogeology department and the Environmental Engineering department.
Depending on requirements, we form individual project teams and are additionally supported by Team Assistants. The atmosphere in our department is very friendly and based on mutual respect and appreciation.
We furthermore work with public clients, such as the Österreichische Bundesbahnen (Austrian Federal Railways), the Deutsche Bahn (German Federal Railways) and Land Tirol (the Government of Tyrol), as well as with construction companies, project developers, international banks and financing institutions.
“I, as Department Manager, but also we, as a team, are proud of the way in which we handle very complex interdisciplinary infrastructure projects and of the fact that we are able to do this to the complete satisfaction of our clients. The conscientiousness, open-mindedness and agility of my team members really sets them apart. Additionally, the collegiality and team spirit, willingness to help each other and commitment of every individual enables us to master difficult challenges together, while always maintaining a good working atmosphere.”

MEET YOUR COLLEAGUES
“Having joined ILF immediately after graduating from university, I have been able to personally and professionally grow with the tasks assigned to me, gain experience and take on more and more responsibility over the years. I particularly value being able to work independently on projects and as part of a team.”

“For me, my colleagues are like a second family – especially as there is such great collegiality within our team. Thanks to the flexibility which ILF offers, and the possibility of working from home, I am able to successfully balance my work and my personal needs and requirements. This, in particular, contributes to the fact that I enjoy my job.”
Fani H.
